K.I.T. GenZ!

I don’t even try to pretend that I know what’s going on among my entire generation since I don’t believe in the idea of generational divides. But in my experience, as a Gen Zer who grew up around computers and on social media with no idea what it was like to live without it, I find that many of my peers have moved off of social media platforms that were popular growing up (SnapChat, Instagram, Kik, Tumblr, TikTok, Twitter, etc.) and have been desperately trying to find ways to fill the social gap these centralized digital attention behemoths have left in their wake. I stopped using a public-facing Instagram in 2020, meaning I no longer use it to connect with people or make myself known to an audience through any identifiable presence or profile. I deleted TikTok soon after when I tried going on a social media purge. I pretty much only use Twitter these days for brief updates of global events and updates on the raging pandemics that it’s come to a point where if I want to know how any of my loved ones are doing, I have to make the concerted effort to reach out over texts or calls (however many times it may take to get their attention).
